Upcoming

This week I've been incredibly tired. I don't know why. Well, I may know why. Getting up at 6:30 in the morning kinda sucks. Especially when you're a night owl by nature. But today I feel right again, so perhaps I've acclimated finally. Or maybe that nap before I went to bed did me some good.

Not a lot going on this weekend. I am babysitting tomorrow night. It's for a baby, which is nice and not really difficult. But, a little boring. Maybe it'll be nice and I can take her for a walk. Sunday is softball of course, but I don't know what time yet. I hear it's supposed to rain this weekend; I hope we don't get rained out.

I bought two books this week - one by one of my favorite authors, Sheri Reynolds. She hasn't had a new book out in 7-10 years (I can't remember when the last one came out) so it was about time. I am only a little ways into it but so far it's excellent. The other book I purchased is actually abook about books to read. They're all books dealing with women's issues. A few of them are nonfiction, so I doubt I will read them. I saw one of them is by Susan Faludi - I'm just not into reading all about feminism. But there are some good classic novels listed by authors whom I've never read. I see one is by Jane Austen...I will seriously think hard before I delve into it. I loathe Pride and Prejudice. I was happy to see that there were quite a few that I've already read. I read a lot of contemporary fiction...I should read more of the classics.

So I heard from my mom that my cousin shut herself in an empty refridgerator one day. Good grief. Thank God her parents found her before she suffocated. She'll be four on May 6.

Oh, and on May 2 I will begin the countdown to my own birthday!!!

Bird Flu?

Okay, maybe what I had this week wasn't that bad, but I think if you would have asked me on Tuesday I would have disagreed. It started on Monday afternoon. First I had a sore throat, so I went and took some cold medicine from the break room. Not long after that I started to feel a little nautious, which I attributed to having taken said medicine on a completely empty stomach. I could smell people's lunch and it was more than I could bear. Rather than start the stomach purging process at work, I decided to depart gracefully and went home. And then for the next twelve hours or so kept it up. Of course, I hadn't had anything to eat in a long time... so that just made things worse. I spiked a lowish fever (around 101), could only sleep for an hour at a time, and had a headache that was horrible...and of course no Tylenol in the house.

After about 24 hours of this headache, I was desperate. But, I couldn't fathom the idea of going next door to Safeway. With limited options, I called Judy who thankfully drove all the way from Sammamish and not only got me the Tylenol, but also some Jello, 7-Up, and Saltines. About 30 minutes after I took the Tylenol, my fever broke and I was drenched in sweat. But, the headache persisted and also the general icky feeling.

Yesterday was better; I could at least stay awake all day. As insult upon injury, it was a beautiful day out, so at least I got to open the sliding door and let some of the germs out of the house. I felt pretty pathetic and sorry for myself and was reminded of how much it sucks to have no one check up on me when I am sick. So, I called my mom, Keely, and Tim to bemoan my sad state last night. By this time I felt up to the challenge of going to Safeway to pick up some peppermint candies to ease my still queazy stomach. I stood in the parking lot for several seconds trying to decide if I should walk or drive. I didn't want to overdo it, but Safeway is pretty close. I ended up walking because I was wearing my glasses, which just aren't fit for driving anymore. It was a fairly warm night, so it wasn't bad.

I am to the point now where food sounds good in theory - I saw a KFC commercial last night and the mashed potatoes looked sooo good, - but yesterday when I tried to eat soup, I couldn't eat more than four bites. So, I'm subsisting on Saltines. Oh, and some toast, because I have white bread in the house for the first time in years, from the French toast from Easter brunch with a friend.

Someone asked me to babysit tonight and like an idiot I agreed, but thankfully they've cancelled. I don't think I am up to chasing kids around yet.

Easter

Other than babysitting for a couple hours on Saturday, I don't really have any weekend plans, despite it being a holiday. I cannot remember what I did last year for Easter...which leads me to conclude that I must have done nothing. For some reason, an Easter brunch sounded like a good idea: French toast, eggs, bacon...Not very Eastery. Anyway, making brunch for yourself really isn't much fun, so I will probably forego it.

Last night I willingly went to sleep around 10:30 and this morning woke up at 6:30. Amazingly, I am not exhausted today. I don't think that I will make this a habit, but I guess going to bed early every once in awhile can't hurt.

Maybe I will work on the novel this weekend since I am caught up with my other job now.

Oh wait...I do have softball practice for a couple hours on Saturday, although if it keeps raining, I suppose that we'll cancel it.

I didn't buy myself any Peeps this year. Or a Cadbury caramel egg. What is the equivelant expression of Bah Humbug for Easter? That's what I feel like is going on here this year.

Boring

Sigh...I hate being bored at work!

The weekend was pleasantly quiet. Friday night Judy came over for dinner. Saturday was rainy and since the house wasn't completely demolished, I had time on my hands so I worked on my other job and got quite a lot accomplished. That night Judy and I went to Chili's for dinner, mainly because I was craving Southwest eggrolls, and then saw Take the Lead. Since I am generally a sucker for teacher movies, I enjoyed it. Yesterday was rainy again, so the softball game was cancelled, so I worked some more, took care of a few domicile duties and then ended the day with a Target run.

I did watch a National Geographic Special about the newly uncovered and restored Gospel of Judas, though. It's very interesting.

I even worked out at home, using the On Demand fitness routines, which was pretty nice. I find it hard to believe that I got as good a workout as if I had gone to the gym...but since I wasn't in the mood to go to the gym, I suppose it's better than if I had just lounged around and done nothing.

Started the new Elizabeth Berg book last night. Her books always go so fast!

Caffeine Free

Today is my fourth consecutive day without caffeine...well, liquid caffeine that is. I've had chocolate. I'm not completely insane! When I was in the ER on Sunday, every time that they took my blood pressure, it was freakishly high, and since I hadn't had much to eat but had drank several sodas, I am attributing it to that. And the fact I was panicking internally. Anyway. It hasn't been all that difficult to give it up and I am not promising that this is a permanent thing...but it's a start.

Don't really have anything going on this weekend. Tonight Judy is coming over for dinner, but that's about it. The house isn't even so trashed that I need to stay home and clean it. Oh, I do have a softball game on Sunday.

Blood and Guts

The plan this weekend was to get the house completely cleaned up. I don't think since I've moved in have I ever had all my laundry done or vacuumed all the rooms. I also got the bookshelf in the dining room in much better order and can see the top of the table. On Sunday I was especially proud that I put the screen door back on, fixed the entry way closet door that had come off its track, and figured out how to put the smoke detector lid back on (much more difficult than you think). After all this domestic bliss...I went to my first softball game of the season.

Everything was fine for awhile. I got onto base ligitamately even. And then somewhere in the fourth or fifth inning, a softball decided to hit me in the nose. It was malicious. I believe that softball had held a grudge against me from all the way back in the first inning when I got to first base and it planned its diabolical plot. Its carefully executed attack, so cleverly disguised as a foul tip back, using the poor catcher from the other team as its hapless puppet, knocked me to the ground.
