Mika

You all can stop hassling me (Tim), I've made an appointment for next week for Mika to get spayed. Since her escape trick on the Fourth of July, I've decided it's pretty much imperative. I know this is silly, but I feel bad when I think of her having to have surgery. Why can't they provide a birth control pill for cats? I mean, I haven't ever even had surgery (knock on wood) and I am subjecting my defenseless cat to it. But last night, I was trying to remember the last time that she went into heat, and I couldn't...I'm 95% sure that she isn't pregnant from her short sojourn outside; she wasn't in heat and there aren't that many unfixed male cats in the neighborhood. But still...now I am a little worried. So, she's off to see Dr. Shuldt at Cats Exclusive next Tuesday.

Last night I decided to finally do my dishes and when I started taking things out of the sink, there was the largest spider in there that I've ever seen! It had even started to spin a web in there! It was ready to set up camp! I murdered it, though. Nastiness! I hate spiders. I killed three of them last night. Does anyone know of a cat friendly way of disposing of them?

The weather here has been incredible lately! It's been so hot. I'm trying to soak up as much as I can now to get me through the winter.

Busy Weekend

Well, this was one busy weekend! Friday night I accompanied Keely to a BCC ASL Club gathering. It was frustrating not to be able to understand much. But, it did serve to reinforce the rumblings I've been having that I want to learn ASL again...this time the right way, not just me teaching me from a book. It was a good start when I was 14, but now I have more options and I need to utilize them. I might be building the club a small Web site in exchange for an ASL tutor, which I think it super cool. Later that night, I got out my old book, which I am sure I haven't opened in at least 10 years, and started going through the pages. A lot of signs came back to me, which is a good sign (no pun intended) I think.

Saturday, I went to Wendy's rehearsal dinner held at Palomino's in downtown Seattle. Great food and tons of it! I met some interesting people and got to talk quite a bit with her mom and step-dad. When I told him that I was from Wisconsin, his reply was, "No offense, but you do look like you're from Wisconsin." I laughed and asked how..."I don't know, something about milk and cheese." Should I have been offended!? It is true that us Midwesterners have a "look about us." But to be told that...sigh. I will have to work harder at shedding my milk and cheese look. :) Anyway, after I left, I was going to go to Pacific Place to Barnes and Noble. The Torchlight Parade had just let out and between the crowd and coming out a different door, I was a little disoriented as to where I was and how to get where I wanted to go. I took off in one direction and at one point realized that I was going the wrong way. So I turned around and as I waited for the light to turn in my favor, I heard five gun shots. I wasn't sure at the time if they were indeed gunshots or noise makers, only that I saw a bunch of people running in one direction and the police running in the opposite direction, guns in hand. That was when I decided that I should just get into my car and go home. Last night as I watched the news, they reported that a woman was shot on the corner of 5th and Union, which was the corner that I was at when I heard the popping. I've never been that close to a real shooting! I think about, what if I had turned down that street as I was walking, instead of heading back the way I came? Now, I have to contemplate, Do I tell Mom?

Yesterday was the big event: Wendy's wedding! It was a gorgeous day. I've been praying for months now that it would be. It was hot but not unbearable since a breeze blew. The flowers in the Rose Garden were awesome. She looked lovely. Everyone was happy. What a great day. I was among several readers, the last one, her friend Steena, read The Places You Will Go, by Dr. Suess. I've always heard it read on graduations, but it was apropos for the wedding, too. The reception at the house had tons of food! The cake was yummy! She chose unique flavors: one tier of poppyseed marionberry, two layers of chocolate banana, and one layer of something and creme. I had the marionberry and it was scrumptious.

I think tonight I am just going to stay home! For weeks I have been on the go...which I enjoy having things to do, but my house is a disaster and needs to be cleaned. It would be nice to just sit and be, too.

The Wonderful World of Dating

This was supposed to be "The Summer of Love." Well, summer is,what, half way over, and I'm not feeling the love. Feeling some "like," yes. Feeling some overly optimistic hope-sos: definitely. All it's doing is driving me to eat chocolate and contemplate exactly how many cats I have to get in order to qualify as a "spinster." Grr. I'd hoped that I'd have someone to take to Wendy's wedding on Sunday; however, that doesn't appear to be coming to fruition. Sigh. And I am going to look so cute, too.

I bought a hair straightener today. I know, you're thinking, "What in the world? Isn't your hair straight enough as it is?" My reply is, "No." My hair is straight...but it has some weird kinks here and there and then it has frizziness, which I abhorr. I used Keely's flat iron last night and I loved it. It got rid of the frizziness and my hair looked so much closer to what it did last time I got it cut. I can reach a similar result if I blow dry it correctly, but this doesn't take as long. So, I add yet another machine to my repertoire of hair contortion machines in the bathroom closet.

Quote for the Day

Today on the calendar that Suganthi gave me for Easter...

I still find each day too short for all the thoughts I want to think, all the walks I want to take, all the books I want to read, and all the friends I want to see. --John Burroughs

Updates

I am once again guilty of slacking on the blog. Sorry. It's not like there hasn't been anything going on in which to write about...perhaps the problem is that there's been a lot of stuff going on, impeding my time in which to blog. Anyway.

So, a guy gave me his phone number on Saturday night. That was pretty cool. I wasn't expecting it or even wanting it so much. But it was nice to be pursued, that's for sure.

All of a sudden, I don't feel like blogging right now. Maybe more later.

Mt. Ranier is Always There

Note to drivers on 520: Listen, the mountain is always there, even on the days that we can't see it because of the clouds. There is no need to drive 10 miles per hour to gawk at it. Do you realize how much traffic gets bogged down? Also, there is no need to slow down to look at a fender bender or someone getting a ticket. Whoever is involved with the mishap surely doesn't want you staring. You wouldn't want people slowing to stare if it were you, would you? Please everyone, let's just drive the speed limit and be happy little Seattleites going to the Eastside and back every day! PLEASE!!!

Okay, now that rant is done.

Tomorrow we're going to Myrtle Edwards Park for the annual sojourn to Fourth of July-Ivars. We are disappointed that "our band," The Dudley Manlove Quartet, isn't performing this year. Neither is Loni Rose. But, it's always a fun day there.
