Things I Like to Do

When I am not staring at a computer at work, I...

crochet. I have made four adult size afghans and two baby afghans, as well as some assorted scarves. Keely's was the first blanket and of course it's the worst looking. The edges are uneven; it's obvious where I started with new skeins, and it's barely wide enough to cover anyone. Then I made one for Rolf (back when he was my boyfriend). I made Kevin a baby afghan when his daughter, Camille, was born. During my 100 day break from contracting at Microsoft, I made a house warming afghan for Erich. By that time I was much better skilled and faster, so he has the best blanket to date. It's fairly square and I learned how to transition from skein to skein so the ends don't show. I finally finished a blanket of my own last week. It's not at large as Erich's, but I am small and it does just fine for me. I bought some new yarn and am starting in on a new blanket.

Oh, so you think I'm boring? Well, of course I like to do more than crochet.

Books I am reading right now...

(Usually I have several books that I dabble in.)

  • The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring, by J.R. Tolkien. I have finally gotten around to reading this. I was determined to read the book first, before watching the movie, so alas, I haven't seen the film yet.

  • Minding the Body: Women Writers on Body and Soul , by Patricia Foster (editor). Keely lent me this book; it's not the type of book that I usually buy. I've only read the introduction so far, but it seems okay.

  • A Prayer for Owen Meany , by John Irving. Tim gave this to me for my birthday. I started it, really I did, and then that new Elizabeth Berg novel was released and I tried to resist its power, but I failed. Sorry, Tim. It is in my car. As soon as I finish The Lord of the Rings series, I will get back to it.
